THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF OUR FEEDING SENIORS PROGRAM

Season 2025 marks the final year of running our Feeding Seniors Program with the end of our fiscal sponsorship. We fed over 160 seniors in 3 deliveries, with a possible 4th delivery of sweet potatoes in November.

FEEDING SENIORS 2020-2025

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THE FEEDING SENIORS PROGRAM

  • In 2025, we raised $10,000 in our fiscal sponsorship with Possibility Labs. $10,000 allowed the farm to feed 160+ seniors over 3 deliveries during the the height of our harvest season - September and October, where the farm can nourish elders with the best of both summer and fall produce. Bittermelon, yellow watermelon, celtuce, Napa cabbage, Chinese cauliflower, chinese celery, kabocha, chili peppers, Sheng gua, amaranth, gailan, broccoli, Chinese cucumbers, asian eggplants and more are abundant during this time.

  • In 2024 we received last minute funding from Sky High Farm in Hudson, New York. Since the funds were available at the end of the season, we deviated from a season long, weekly CSA delivery, to feed 160 seniors over 3 weeks. Lines were out the door for the free produce, and since our shares are so big, they were divided in 2, so we ended up feeding up to 275 seniors in 3 weeks in partnership with our San Francisco distribution partner, the Chinatown Community Development Center (CCDC).

  • In 2023 we feed 20 seniors in San Francisco Chinatown who reside in SRO (single room occupancy) buildings managed by the CCDC, and 10 seniors in Oakland Chinatown who use the services of Lincoln Recreation Center. These seniors are on a fixed income, are often non-English speaking, and eldery. With the decrease in benefits of CalFresh, many of our most vulnerable seniors are having to choose between buying their medicine or food. Honoring and caring for our elders is a deeply personal and cultural value. Each full season subscription costs $845 per person, which provides 13 boxes of culturally relevant, nutrient dense, Asian-heritage produce, every-other-week, from May-October.

  • In 2020, when the pandemic hit and with the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes, we wrote for a grant to deliver CSA farm boxes to feed seniors in need in Oakland and San Francisco Chinatown. Sonoma County’s Ag + Open Space created a one-time Agricultural Support and Protection (ASAP) Emergency Matching Grant Program that funded our 1st year initiative. In 2021 we partnered with Oakland Chinatown’s Lincoln Recreational Center to locate and feed 10 Asian American seniors with culturally relevant, nutrient dense produce with our CSA boxes. In 2022 we partnered again with Lincoln Park Recreation Center, Family Bridges and the Vietnamese American Community Center of the East Bay (VACCEB) to feed 33 AAPI seniors and families in need.

Thank you for supporting our most important Community Initiative with a tax-deductible donation so we can continue to provide healthy and fresh produce to our seniors in need.
